Postgirobygget, Skyscraper in Vaterland, Oslo, Norway.
Postgirobygget is a 26-story office tower on Biskop Gunnerus Gate 14 that originally rose as a single structure with a brown facade. Today two connected towers define its appearance in the Vaterland district.
The building opened in 1975, designed by architects Odd Borgrud Pedersen and Rolf Christian Krognes, and held the title of Norway's tallest structure for 15 years. A 2003 renovation split it into two towers, fundamentally changing its original form.
A band took the building's name as their own, showing how this structure became part of local identity and popular culture.
The building sits in central Oslo with easy access to public transit, housing Posten Norge postal service headquarters and numerous offices. Its tall, straightforward structure makes it simple to locate and view from different angles around the district.
The building takes its name from the Postgiro service, a Norwegian financial institution that occupied space here for many years. This connection to finance history makes it a marker of how Oslo's economy developed.
