Bergen City Hall, Administrative building in Bergen, Norway

Bergen City Hall is an administrative building with 14 floors and a height of 51 meters, clad in textured concrete. The structure contains office spaces named after postal districts throughout the city.

Architect Erling Viksjø won a design competition in 1953, but construction was not completed until 1974 due to technical requirements. This extended building period was necessary to realize the complex structural demands of the project.

The interior reflects 1960s Scandinavian design principles with clean lines and functional forms that remain visible to visitors today. The spaces show how modernist design shaped public buildings during this era.

The building stands in central Bergen and is easily accessible on foot or by public transport from the city center. For information about visiting or accessing interior spaces, contact the city administration or the building reception directly.

During restoration work, a specialized concrete technique developed and patented by Viksjø was used to maintain the original surface finish. This method preserved the building's distinctive appearance across decades of use.
