Stavernsodden Lighthouse, Lighthouse in Larvik, Norway

Stavernsodden Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the eastern side of the southern entrance to Stavern harbor, in the municipality of Larvik, Norway. The tower is white with a small red lantern at the top, and it stands on a rocky stretch of coastline with open views of the sea.

The lighthouse was first lit in 1855 to guide ships safely into Stavern harbor. In 1984 it was automated, ending the need for a keeper to tend the light by hand each day.

The lighthouse is a familiar reference point for people in Larvik, and local fishermen and boaters still use it to orient themselves on the water. The white sector it projects at night marks a safe route between Svenner and the mainland, a function that remains relevant today.

The lighthouse is accessible from Larvik and can be visited up close from the outside. Summer is the most popular time to go, as the rocky coastline around it is easier to walk and the sea views are at their clearest.

Although the lighthouse has been automated since 1984, it is listed as a protected site, meaning its structure cannot be altered. The white zone it casts toward the east is a navigational signal that shows sailors the precise safe corridor between Svenner island and the mainland coast.
