Vestre Aker Church, Gothic Revival church in Ullevaal, Norway
Vestre Aker Church is a Gothic Revival building in Ullevaal with detailed stained glass windows created between 1939 and 1955. It holds roughly 500 people and features a 27-voice organ plus two bells in the tower.
The building was completed in 1855 and originally called Aker Church, but received its current name in 1861 following a parish division. A parish house was added in 1983 to support community activities.
The pulpit inside comes from Oslo Cathedral and was made following architectural designs from the 1850s. It connects the church directly to the religious history of the city.
The building is open to visitors during worship services and provides good views of the artwork inside. It is best to check opening times before visiting since it remains an active place of worship.
The stained glass windows were partly designed by Bernhard Greve and show craftsmanship spread across multiple decades. This makes the interior a visual timeline of 20th-century glass-making techniques.
