Christiansfjell Fortress, Military fortress in Elverum, Norway
Christiansfjell Fortress stands on a hill overlooking the Glomma River, featuring defensive structures and a former powder magazine cellar within its grounds.
Built in 1683 by Danish officer Gustav Wilhelm Wedel Jarlsberg, the fortress received its name during King Christian V's inspection visit in 1685.
The fortress represents Norwegian defensive architecture from the 17th century, reflecting the military strategies employed to protect the Swedish border region.
Visitors can explore the fortress ruins in a park setting, which now includes a municipal water tower constructed in 1964 that supplies water to Elverum.
The fortress materials were relocated to Kongsvinger Fortress after its closure in 1742, marking the end of its military service without ever seeing combat.
