Glitterheim, Mountain tourist cabin in Veodalen Valley, Norway.
Glitterheim is a mountain cabin located at 1384 meters in Veodalen Valley near Glittertind peak, providing direct routes to multiple summits in Jotunheimen National Park. The facility offers 137 beds in different room types, hot showers, and daily electricity powered by a generator until 23:00.
The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association commissioned architect Hjalmar Welhaven to design this refuge, which opened in 1901. It marked the beginning of organized mountain tourism in this remote alpine region.
The cabin reflects Norwegian mountain culture through its design and role as a meeting place for hikers from around the world. Visitors experience traditional alpine hospitality while sharing meals and stories with fellow travelers exploring the high peaks.
The cabin sits on a high plateau and requires a several-hour hike to reach; bring sturdy hiking boots and weatherproof clothing. All basic amenities are available, but running water exists only in the facilities.
A nature trail begins at the cabin with educational stops about local plants, wildlife, and mountain settlements in the surrounding alpine area. This path reveals how people once lived in this harsh environment.
