Surtningssue, Mountain summit in Jotunheimen National Park, Norway.
Surtningssue is a mountain in the Jotunheimen range with several distinct peaks rising to 2,368 meters (7,769 feet). The various ridges and faces create multiple routes toward the main summit for hikers with different skill levels.
The first documented ascent took place around 1840, marking an early milestone in Norwegian mountaineering. This early exploration helped establish climbing traditions in the region.
The name comes from old Norwegian words referring to its distinctive shape, which visitors can recognize when viewing the peak from different angles around the park.
The ascent begins from Memurubu cabin at Lake Gjendin following clearly marked paths through the valley. Sturdy boots and good fitness are important since the terrain becomes increasingly steep and rocky higher up.
The peak sits on the border between two municipalities and provides views of neighboring summits like Veotinden and Besshø. This location makes it an excellent vantage point for seeing the broader mountain landscape of the area.
