Memurubu, Tourist cabin in Lom Municipality, Norway
Memurubu sits at the mouth of the Muru river on Lake Gjende and serves as a key base point on the Besseggen hiking route in Jotunheimen. The facility houses around 150 beds in double and multi-bed rooms, with some private bathrooms and showers available.
The lodge began as a mountain pasture in 1872 and was the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association's fourth establishment. It later passed to private ownership and became a major stopping point on the popular mountain route.
The lodge brings hikers together in shared dining spaces and welcomes unplanned visitors as part of its mountain hospitality practice. This communal experience shapes the character of staying here.
The cabin is best accessed during daylight hours and sits along an established hiking path with clear marking. Visitors should expect hilly terrain and changeable weather, so proper gear is essential.
The lodge generates electricity through its own small hydroelectric system in this remote mountain area. Grazing cows still roam the surrounding mountain pastures, reflecting how the place has long been used.
