Falstad Centre

The Falstad Centre is a memorial and education facility in Ekne, Norway, housed in a former prison building from World War II that operated as a detention facility for political prisoners. The site features exhibition spaces, overnight accommodation, and extensive documentation about those imprisoned there.

The center grew from a local museum founded in 1985 by survivors and families documenting the camp's past. By 2006, it moved to the original camp building and became a national documentation center for political prisoners held during German occupation.

The name comes from the nearby village of Falstad, connecting local history with global lessons about human dignity and freedom. Through personal stories and testimony, the space shows how imprisonment shaped individual lives and communities across generations.
