Alstadhaug Church

Alstadhaug Church is a medieval stone building in Levanger with a rectangular nave and a separate square chancel for the clergy. The interior features an ornate carved altarpiece created in the 1650s.

Construction of the church began in the mid-1100s and continued over several decades. Timber analysis shows that parts of the roof structure date back to the years 1166-1167.

The church displays medieval wall paintings depicting biblical scenes that have adorned the interior since the 13th century. These artworks reflect how the local community expressed its faith across the centuries.

The church remains active with regular services, so visitors should check opening times in advance. It is best to visit during announced opening hours or after contacting the local parish for access.

Next to the church sits an Iron Age burial mound that preserves ancient settlement layers from prehistoric times. This ancient monument shows that the location held importance long before the church was built.
