Sandtorgholmen

Sandtorgholmen is a heritage trading post on a peninsula along the Tjeldsundet Strait with multiple restored buildings and an active harbor. The site offers lodging in historic structures, dining facilities, event spaces, and access to waterfront activities and outdoor exploration.

The trading post received licenses for wine sales starting in the 14th century and grew into a vital maritime commerce hub. Postal and telegraph services were added later, strengthening the site's role as a regional connection point for communications and trade.

The buildings reflect the style of a traditional Norwegian coastal trading settlement and now function as accommodation and a gathering place for visitors. Walking through the complex reveals how merchants and sailors once moved between storage areas and living quarters in daily routines.

The site lies south of Harstad and is best visited during daylight hours when buildings are open and activities are available. Wearing comfortable walking shoes is advisable since exploring the grounds involves navigating uneven paths around the harbor area.

The location sits on European Route E10, a legendary road that passes through several countries and connects travelers to remarkable landscapes. Depending on the season, visitors can witness the Northern Lights in winter or the Midnight Sun in summer from this vantage point.
