Vingnes Bridge, Road bridge in Lillehammer Municipality, Norway
Vingnes Bridge is a road bridge spanning Lake Mjøsa to connect the Vingnes neighborhood with Lillehammer's central area. The structure reaches across the water for a considerable distance, forming a key link between two parts of the municipality.
The bridge was constructed in 1934 and served as a primary crossing for vehicle traffic for decades. It lost its role as a main road after 2017 when European Highway 6 opened to traffic.
The bridge conversion reflects the Norwegian commitment to environmental initiatives, transforming from a car route into a dedicated space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The pedestrian path is clearly marked with benches and planted containers to make walking and cycling comfortable. The flat surface and good access make it ideal for a leisurely walk across the water.
During summer months the structure transforms into a community gathering place where local markets and exhibitions are held. From here visitors enjoy views across Norway's largest lake.
