Bergen tinghus, Courthouse in Bergen Municipality, Norway
Bergen tinghus is a six-story neoclassical courthouse with 25 courtrooms that sits in the center of the city. The building houses various courts and legal institutions that serve Bergen and the surrounding regions.
The courthouse was completed in 1933 based on designs by architect Egill Reimers and replaced earlier legal facilities. The judicial system itself dates back to the 16th century when Bergen established its own court structure.
Four granite statues at the main entrance represent fundamental virtues of wisdom, justice, moderation, and strength, created by artists Nic Schiøll and Stinius Fredriksen.
The building is centrally located and easily accessible on foot, with parking and public transportation nearby. Visitors should know that access to court proceedings or official business follows specific opening hours and includes security checks.
The entrance features four granite statues representing wisdom, justice, moderation, and strength, created by artists Nic Schiøll and Stinius Fredriksen. These sculptures were carved from Norwegian granite and serve as symbolic guardians of the judicial process.
