Sentralen

Sentralen is a cultural center in downtown Oslo housed in two connected banking buildings from the late 1800s. Inside you will find multiple event spaces, a restaurant, and modern facilities arranged to support different kinds of gatherings and activities.

The building was constructed in 1899 as a savings bank and operated for financial services for many decades. A major renovation in 2012 transformed the banking halls into cultural spaces and opened the building to public use.

The space hosts exhibitions, musical performances, and workshops that draw people together around creative activities and social exchange. You will find a welcoming environment where artists, thinkers, and community members share their work and ideas.

The center sits in a central location and is easy to reach by public transportation. The spaces are arranged to welcome visitors of different abilities and to accommodate various group sizes.

The original materials such as stone and metal were intentionally left in their raw state during renovation. This approach created a distinctive quality where visitors can literally see the building's history written in exposed walls and architectural details.
