Rudskulen, Iron Age hillfort in Lillestrøm Municipality, Norway
Rudskulen is an Iron Age hillfort in Lillestrøm Municipality built on elevated terrain near the Rud farm. It features a substantial northern barrier wall with two openings and connecting walls that formed a defensive enclosure.
The site was built between 400 and 550 AD during the Migration Period to serve as a fortification. Its location on elevated terrain allowed defenders to control the surrounding landscape.
The site represents one of 300 similar Norwegian fortifications concentrated around Oslo, Rogaland, and Trøndelag regions, reflecting ancient defensive architecture.
Visitors can access the remains through the northern opening about two meters wide, reached by walking from Torgenrud. The terrain is uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
An ancient cistern inside the fortification once stored water for survival during sieges. This underground feature reveals how defenders carefully planned their supplies for prolonged defense.
