Valmiki Ashram, Hindu temple in Bagaha, Nepal
Valmiki Ashram is a Hindu temple and protected monument in Kanpur Nagar district where three rivers converge. The complex shows traditional architectural forms with several buildings, courtyards and gardens reached by a suspension bridge.
A sage founded this place for spiritual instruction centuries ago while composing his epic work. The site offered refuge to a woman who raised her two sons here before they later became important figures in tradition.
The site carries the name of a sage whose Sanskrit epic shaped parts of Hindu tradition. Visitors today still see spots within the temple grounds linked to stories of his students.
A suspension bridge crosses one of the rivers to reach the temple grounds so visitors arrive without getting wet. The site welcomes many people during religious festivals, so quieter periods outside these dates offer a calmer visit.
The grounds preserve a kitchen and water well attributed to the time when a woman lived here. Several trees are said to stand where her sons played during their early years.
