Rustaq Fort

Rustaq Fort stands on an elevated hill and features four main towers of varying heights throughout its structure. The compound contains living quarters, weapon storage, reception halls, dungeons, water wells, and a mosque enclosed within its walls.

The original fortress was built under Persian rule centuries before Islam arrived in the region. The current structure was constructed in the medieval period and underwent major renovations during the 17th century.

The fort displays traditional Omani architecture with living spaces, storage areas, and a prayer room that show how people lived here long ago. The arrangement of rooms and passages tells of the craftsmanship and domestic life of that era.

The fort sits slightly outside the city center and is surrounded by craft shops and cafes that serve visitors. Plan time to walk through the different areas and wear appropriate clothing for sun and dust exposure.

The fort has an elaborate water system with channels and storage basins that reveal how clever medieval Omani construction was. This system supplied water to residents and was a key part of how the structure functioned.
