Rustaq Fort

Rustaq Castle stands on an elevated hill with four primary towers, including the Red Tower reaching 16 meters and the Wind Tower extending 18 meters high.

Persian rulers constructed the initial fortress four centuries before Islam, while the current structure dates from 1250 and underwent major expansions between 1624 and 1649.

The castle contains traditional architectural elements such as living quarters, weapon storage rooms, reception halls, dungeons, water wells, and a mosque within its walls.

The fortress lies 90 minutes by car from Muscat, with local craft shops and cafes situated near the entrance for visitors.

The castle features an intricate water system with channels and storage facilities, demonstrating advanced engineering methods of medieval Omani construction.
