Rustaq, Ancient town and district in Al Batinah Region, Oman.

Rustaq is a town in Al Batinah South that sits between mountains and coastal plains, with three major forts forming a historical defense network across the northern region. These fortifications stand at key points and remain prominent landmarks in the landscape.

The town served as the capital of Oman during the 17th century under Imam Nasir bin Murshid al Yaarubi. This period shaped its role and strategic importance as a center of power in the region.

The town center shows signs of daily life shaped by local crafts and agriculture, where traditional ways of working have remained visible in the streets. These practices connect people to their surroundings and shape how the community moves through the town.

The town connects to three forts through a loop route spanning roughly 160 kilometers, which takes about three hours to drive. Planning ahead and allowing time to stop at each location helps visitors see the full picture of the region.

Local beekeepers maintain large apiaries throughout the area as part of a long tradition of local crafts. This beekeeping has adapted to the region's climate and remains a distinctive part of the local economy.
