Las Piñas is a city in Metro Manila, Philippines, stretching along the Manila Bay coastline and connecting different residential and commercial districts. Several major roads cross the territory and link it to other parts of the metropolitan area.
The settlement began as a fishing village along the shores of Manila Bay and became a separate administrative unit within Manila Province in 1762. During the 19th century, bamboo craftsmanship developed here, bringing recognition to the community beyond the region.
The city takes its name from the pineapples that once grew here before the area developed into a residential community. Today, fishermen pull in their nets along the coastline in the early morning while families gather in front of their homes in side streets.
The city is best reached by public buses and jeepneys running from different points across Metro Manila. Visitors should bring cash, as card payments are not accepted everywhere.
Some coastal sections still produce salt by channeling seawater into shallow pools and evaporating it through sunlight. This method dates back to the 18th century and remains practiced by a few families.
