Zapote Bridge, Stone arch pedestrian bridge in Bacoor and Las Piñas, Philippines
Zapote Bridge is a stone arch structure that crosses the Zapote River and links Las Piñas with Bacoor. A modern concrete bridge now runs alongside it to carry vehicle traffic on Aguinaldo Highway, leaving the original structure for foot traffic.
The bridge became a focal point during the 1897 Philippine Revolution when a major battle took place there. Two years later, in 1899, it saw another confrontation as Philippine and American forces clashed nearby.
The bridge takes its name from the Zapote River below it. Today locals and visitors walk across it to experience a landmark tied to the nation's fight for independence.
Visit in the early morning or late afternoon when vehicle traffic is lighter and crossing is more pleasant. Stay on the pedestrian path and avoid the roadway, as the modern bridge beside it carries the main traffic flow.
A monument at the southern end honors General Edilberto Evangelista, who died defending the bridge during an early conflict. His sacrifice transformed this location into a symbol of resistance against foreign rule.
