Las Piñas Bamboo Organ, Bamboo pipe organ in Las Piñas, Philippines.
Las Piñas Bamboo Organ is a pipe organ located inside St. Joseph Parish Church in Las Piñas, Philippines. The instrument includes 1031 pipes, with 902 made from bamboo and the rest constructed from metal.
Father Diego Cera finished building the organ in 1824 after carefully preparing bamboo sections. He buried the pieces in beach sand to strengthen them before assembly.
The church hosts an annual February festival that brings international musicians to perform on the instrument. Visitors can attend concerts throughout the event and hear classical compositions played on bamboo pipes.
Guided tours at the church include the organ and a museum housed in the former convent. Plan to visit outside of Mass times to walk through the interior without restrictions.
The builder left bamboo sections buried in beach sand for more than a year before installing them. This method helped protect the material from moisture and pests after construction.
