Zamboanga Sibugay, Administrative province in Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines.
Zamboanga Sibugay is a province on the Zamboanga Peninsula, situated between the Moro Gulf and the Sulu Sea. The region comprises 16 municipalities organized around Ipil, which serves as the capital.
The province was established in 2001 when it was separated from Zamboanga del Sur, becoming the Philippines' 79th province. This division allowed for more effective governance of the peninsula's western territories.
The population consists of Subanen, Visayan, and Muslim communities, each speaking their own languages and observing distinct traditions that shape daily life. This diversity is visible in local markets, celebrations, and religious observances that mark the calendar throughout the year.
Roads connect the municipalities, making it possible to travel between towns and rural areas. The drier months offer better traveling conditions and easier access to different parts of the province.
The economy is shaped by agriculture, rubber processing, and fishing industries that have evolved over decades. These sectors form the backbone of life in the region and drive how communities are organized.
