Plaridel, Municipality in Bulacan, Philippines
Plaridel is a municipality in Bulacan province on the Philippines located at an elevation of around 11 meters above sea level. The Angat and Tabang rivers flow through the area, while 19 barangays form the administrative divisions of this town.
Spanish Augustinian missionaries led by Father Bernardino de Leon established settlements in Plaridel, then called Quingua, during the early 1600s. The area developed into a mission station and later became a significant municipality in the region.
The Parish Church of Santiago Apostol displays Moorish architectural features that visitors can observe today and reflect the religious traditions of the community. The site serves as a spiritual center where local residents gather for celebrations and daily worship.
The municipality is easily accessible by land and offers visitors access to various barangays including Agnaya, Banga, and Bintog. Exploring the local areas during early morning or late afternoon helps visitors avoid the midday heat in this lowland setting.
The area was the site of the Battle of Quingua in 1899, where a significant military encounter took place involving local fighters and foreign troops. This conflict remains part of local memory and reflects a turning point in the community's early modern history.
