Mactan–Cebu International Airport, International airport terminal in Lapu-Lapu, Philippines
Mactan–Cebu International Airport is an international hub on Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu, Philippines. The facility spreads across a large area and operates two separate passenger terminal buildings.
Operations began in 1966 as a replacement for Lahug Airport in Cebu City. By 1978, services expanded to include international charter connections.
Terminal 2 displays Filipino design features in its construction and reflects the cultural heritage of the Central Visayas region. The architectural details recall regional craftsmanship and create a connection between modern travel and local tradition.
Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, while Terminal 2 is designated for international connections. The two areas are physically separated, so travelers should allow enough time for transfers between terminals.
During Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, the airport remained operational and served as the main distribution center for emergency aid to affected areas. This role made it a central hub for humanitarian relief efforts following the disaster.
