Sampaloc Church, Catholic church building in Sampaloc, Philippines
The Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto stands on Figueras Street with a modern architectural design and white exterior walls. An adjacent shrine honors Saint Anthony of Padua within the same grounds.
Franciscan missionaries established the first church structure here in 1613, which later became home to the first Poor Clares congregation in the Philippines. The building survived repeated destruction from a Chinese revolt in 1640, earthquakes in 1666, and World War II.
The shrine hosts regular devotions honoring the Virgin Mary, drawing locals who gather for prayer services throughout the year. This form of worship has shaped spiritual life in the district for centuries.
The church offers daily masses and welcomes visitors throughout the week. The grounds are accessible and allow you to move around the sanctuaries at your own pace.
The current building was completed in 1958 and represents a complete reconstruction after World War II damage. This rebuilding allowed the community to combine their religious traditions with contemporary design.
