Santo Domingo Church, Religious landmark in Quezon City, Philippines
Santo Domingo Church is a Catholic parish church in Quezon City classified as a National Cultural Treasure and ranks among the most important religious buildings in the Philippines. The complex includes a wide church hall with tall side walls, side chapels, and a separate area for burial and memorial services.
The church was first built in 1588 in Intramuros and underwent six reconstructions through earthquakes, fires, and war damage. The present building was completed in 1954 at its new site in Quezon City after Intramuros was destroyed during World War II.
The popular name La Naval refers to a Marian naval victory in 1646, still celebrated with rosary prayers and processions today. Worshippers gather here especially in October, when the church holds nine days of devotion honoring the Queen of the Rosary.
The church is open daily for mass and prayer, with Sunday mornings often drawing more visitors. Those seeking quiet will find weekdays offer calmer moments for a short visit or to light a candle.
The wooden pipe organ came from Hong Kong and was already more than a century old when it arrived here in 1954. It continues to be used in solemn services and is one of the oldest working instruments of its kind in the region.
