Hofileña Ancestral House is a two-story residence in Silay featuring steeply pitched roofs and wide roof overhangs. The interior showcases grand staircases made of ironwood and spacious rooms with polished narra wood floors throughout.
The house was built in 1934 and served as a gathering place for Japanese commanders and later as quarters for American forces during World War II. These wartime uses left an important mark on its historical record.
The residence holds a notable art collection created by renowned Philippine painters and contains sketches from important national figures. These pieces reflect how the family valued arts and creativity throughout their lives here.
The house is open only by advance reservation for guided tours, so planning ahead is necessary. Contact should be made beforehand to arrange a visit at a convenient time.
The residence preserves an original printing press, evidence of early wood-printing work in the Negros region. This rare equipment reveals how the building was used for multiple purposes over time.
