Balay Negrense, Heritage house in Silay, Philippines
The two-story wooden mansion features twelve bedrooms, four-meter high ceilings, large windows, and ventanillas designed for natural ventilation through its hardwood structure.
Built in 1897 for Victor Gaston, son of French sugar plantation owner Yves Germain Gaston, the residence housed his family of twelve children until 1927.
The house displays period furniture, antique utensils, and personal artifacts that represent the lifestyle of sugar plantation owners in Negros Occidental during the 1900s.
Located on Cinco de Noviembre Street, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday with an entrance fee of 50 Philippine pesos for guided tours.
The mansion incorporates local hardwood trunks from Mindoro into its foundation, combining Filipino craftsmanship with European architectural influences of the period.
