Loon Church, Catholic parish church in Moto Sur, Philippines
Loon Church is a Catholic parish church in Moto Sur featuring a rectangular layout with twin octagonal bell towers on its white stone facade. The building displays neogothic elements with ornamental details across its exterior.
The original stone structure was built between 1855 and 1864 under the direction of Domingo de Escondrillas, director of public works from Cebu. The building suffered severe damage in the 2013 earthquake but underwent complete restoration afterward.
The interior holds three neogothic altars, with the central one displaying Nuestra Señora de la Luz as the primary focus of worship here. This religious figure remains the heart of devotion for people who visit the church regularly.
The building collapsed completely after the 2013 earthquake and underwent extensive restoration to return it to its current state. Visitors can now explore the rebuilt structure and its newly restored interior spaces.
The choir loft holds six bells, with five dating to 1867 and each inscribed with names and images of different Catholic saints. These historic bells are visible on the exterior and represent one of the most interesting remaining details from the original construction.
