The Upper East, Mixed-use township in Bacolod City, Philippines.
The Upper East is a mixed-use township in Bacolod on a 34-hectare site with residential condominiums, shopping facilities, office buildings, and parks. The main shopping area spreads across three levels and includes multiple cinemas plus a semi-open food hall featuring an interior garden.
The site was formerly occupied by the Bacolod-Murcia Milling Company, which shut down in the early 1990s due to environmental concerns. Converting this former industrial land into a modern township represented a major shift in how this location is used.
The development blends design inspiration from New York's Upper East Side with local Filipino architectural styles. You can see this mixing in the building facades and public spaces, which combine a modern feel with familiar local touches.
Visitors can easily move between the three shopping levels and find seating and green spaces throughout for breaks. Early mornings or weekdays are the best times to visit when the place is less crowded.
A 48-meter-tall clock tower stands at the center of the site and serves as a notable landmark. It was also the first shopping center in the city to receive environmental certification.
