Capitol Park and Lagoon, Urban park near Provincial Capitol in Bacolod, Philippines
Capitol Park is an urban green space next to the Provincial Capitol building in Bacolod, centered around a lagoon. Paved walkways loop around the water, passing seating areas and open lawns, while the main Neo-Classical structure anchors the site.
The Neo-Classical Provincial Capitol was built during the American colonial period and has anchored this space ever since. The grounds around it developed over time into a public gathering place and community event center.
The space serves as a venue during the MassKara Festival, where crowds gather to see colorful masks and traditional Filipino dances on display. The celebration brings out local customs and community pride.
The park is accessible daily from sunrise to sunset with paved paths suitable for walking and exercise. Benches are scattered throughout for rest, and open areas accommodate larger groups.
Two matching sculptures by Italian artist Francesco Riccardo Monti bookend the lagoon, each depicting farmers with water buffalos. These artworks create a visual frame around the water and are easily overlooked details.
