Padre Pio Shrine, church in Batangas, Philippines
The Padre Pio Shrine is a church building constructed in vernacular style using natural materials such as wood, stone, bamboo, and nipa palm roofing. The interior features an open design with a large driftwood cross, a wooden altar, and several chapels including the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and baptistry.
The shrine began as a small chapel beside a busy highway in Barangay San Pedro and grew significantly after Padre Pio's canonization in 2002, becoming the nation's first parish named after him in 2003. The current main church was completed in 2013 and blessed on Padre Pio's feast day, September 23rd.
The shrine is named after Saint Padre Pio, an Italian priest whose devotion grew rapidly in the Philippines after his canonization in 2002. Visitors light candles in various colors, leave flowers and prayer notes, reflecting how the community expresses faith through these simple acts of personal devotion.
Entrance is free and parking is available with minimal fees or free parking at the back of the grounds. Masses are held multiple times daily in the morning and afternoon at different chapels, with special healing liturgies on the first and third Saturday of each month and additional services on the 23rd.
The shrine received a relic of Padre Pio that was given after his canonization in 2002, deepening people's devotion to his memory. It hosted the 4th World Apostolic Congress on Mercy in 2017, gaining recognition as a national shrine and drawing pilgrims from different parts of the country and abroad.
