Ziębice, Historic municipality in Lower Silesia, Poland
Ziębice is a small city in southwestern Lower Silesia that spreads along the Oława River banks. The surrounding landscape consists of farmland and forests, giving the settlement a rural character.
The city was first recorded in 1234 under the name Sambice and grew into an important administrative center over the following decades. In 1521, its period as a ducal seat under Piast rule ended when it passed to the Podiebrad family.
The Museum of Home Appliances displays collections of kitchen and household equipment that show how daily life changed over the decades. Visitors can see how families once managed their homes with very different tools and methods.
The city connects by bus to larger regional centers, with regular services north to Wrocław and west to Ząbkowice Śląskie. The best time to visit is from May to September, when the weather is most pleasant.
During its heyday, this city was the capital of an independent duchy, a status that many visitors would not expect for such a small place today. This past as a significant power still shapes the local identity and the older buildings in the city.
