Kałdus, Medieval settlement site in Gmina Chełmno, Poland.

Kałdus is a medieval settlement site located on Saint Lawrence Mountain along the eastern bank of the Vistula River in Gmina Chełmno. The hill contains remains of ancient fortifications and numerous archaeological discoveries that reveal details about life here centuries ago.

Archaeological excavations reveal that this location served as a major political center in Eastern Pomerania during the early 11th century under the rule of Bolesław Chrobry. The hill was a seat of power and influence during this important period in the region's development.

The location served as a sacred place for early inhabitants, as evidenced by a stone altar found at the base of the hill. People gathered here to conduct spiritual ceremonies and express their religious beliefs.

The site lies about 6 kilometers south of Chełmno and is accessible by regional roads that connect to larger cities like Toruń and Bydgoszcz. Good walking shoes are recommended since the hill invites exploration and the surrounding area is suitable for walking around.

The fortification has a kidney-shaped rampart design with interior dimensions of roughly 100 meters and exterior dimensions of roughly 140 meters, reflecting advanced defensive thinking. This distinctive geometry reveals the engineering skill and military planning of medieval builders.
