Bieruń, Urban municipality in Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Bieruń is an urban municipality in Silesian Voivodeship located south of Katowice along the Gostynia River. The town contains residential neighborhoods alongside commercial and industrial spaces that have developed over time.
The settlement received town privileges in 1387 from John II, duke of Racibórz, when the area was under Bohemian rule. A major fire in 1845 prompted external support for its reconstruction.
The town maintains strong connections with neighboring European municipalities through partnerships with Gundelfingen, Meung-sur-Loire, Moravský Beroun, and Ostroh.
The municipality functions as a commuting hub for workers traveling to Katowice and has basic public services throughout. Schools, healthcare facilities, and green spaces for recreation are accessible to visitors across the town.
A devastating fire in 1845 became a turning point that drew international attention to the town's recovery. The King of Prussia provided direct financial support for reconstruction, a gesture of external assistance unusual for the time.
