Church of Saint Bartholomew in Bieruń

Church of Saint Bartholomew in Bieruń, Brick parish church in Bieruń, Poland.

The Church of Saint Bartholomew is a brick building in Bieruń with a central altar featuring an image of Saint Bartholomew and two side altars dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. The interior is arranged with religious artwork and follows a traditional layout of liturgical elements.

The church was first documented in 1450 by Jan Długosz in his Liber Beneficiorum, establishing it as one of the settlement's oldest recorded structures. The current building is the fourth to stand on this site and was completed in 1857.

The church displays religious artwork from the 18th century, including two paintings based on Rubens compositions depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds and Kings. These works shape the artistic character of the interior and reflect the artistic tastes of that era.

Access to the church interior is available during services and official visiting hours, typically in the morning and early afternoon. Visitors should dress appropriately and enter the space with the respectful behavior expected in an active parish church.

A stone baptismal font from 1730 sits in the chancel, combining a 19th-century basin with a wooden cover added in 1929. This object shows how different periods were layered together and adapted for use.
