Świecko, Border village in western Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland
Świecko is a small village located near the Polish-German border, approximately six kilometers south of Słubice. The settlement sits along National Road 2, which serves as a key transportation link between the two countries.
The settlement was acquired in 1354 by Frankfurt Oder authorities under the name Sweyt and incorporated into the city's territory. This early incorporation shaped the area for centuries to follow.
The village reflects a long exchange between Polish and German traditions visible in how locals live and use the space. The location along the Oder River makes this cultural crossroads part of everyday life for residents and visitors.
The area is easily reached via National Road 2, which connects directly to the German A12 autobahn. Visitors should allow time for travel and expect road conditions that vary with the seasons.
Border controls at the crossing here ended in December 2007 when Poland joined the Schengen Area. This change fundamentally altered how people move freely across the boundary today.
