Polanica-Zdrój

Polanica-Zdrój is a health resort in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, set among forested hills along the Bystrzyca Dusznicka river. Promenades connect spa facilities and timber-frame villas to walking paths that wind through the surrounding woodlands.

Local miners discovered the springs in the early 19th century while searching for minerals in the valley. The location then developed into a resort that attracted visitors from across historical Silesia.

The town maintains a chess tradition through the annual Akiba Rubinstein Memorial tournament, which has taken place since 1963.

The season typically runs from May to October, when park facilities and outdoor spaces remain accessible. Many paths follow the riverbank or climb gently into the surrounding forests.

An alley lined with handprints of Polish basketball players stretches along the riverside promenade. The tradition recalls an annual sports tournament held here over many decades.
