Gmina Czerwionka-Leszczyny, Administrative district in Rybnik County, Poland.
Gmina Czerwionka-Leszczyny is an urban-rural municipality in Rybnik County, in the Silesian region of southern Poland, made up of the town of Czerwionka-Leszczyny and six surrounding villages. The landscape moves between compact residential districts, open farmland, and patches of forest, with the town center acting as the main hub.
The area first appeared in written records around 1305, when it was a small settlement in the heart of Upper Silesia. Coal mining later transformed it over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, drawing workers from across the region and reshaping both its layout and population.
The Familoki housing estates, built for miners and their families, are still standing in the town and give a clear sense of how workers lived in the Silesian coalfields. Walking through these streets feels like stepping into a chapter of industrial life that has not yet closed.
The municipality covers both a town and several villages, so moving between them takes a bit of planning, especially if you want to see the more rural parts. Having your own transport makes it much easier to reach the quieter areas beyond the town center.
Part of the municipality's territory falls inside the Rudy Landscape Park, a forested protected area that sits surprisingly close to the old mining neighborhoods. This proximity between a nature reserve and former industrial housing is something visitors rarely expect to find in this corner of Silesia.
