Gmina Powidz, Rural municipality in Słupca County, Poland
Gmina Powidz is a rural municipality in Słupca County, in the west-central part of Poland. It covers a farming landscape made up of several small villages connected by country roads.
The village of Powidz was granted town rights in 1243 by Duke Bolesław the Pious and stayed under Polish Crown authority for centuries. Over time it lost its town status and settled into its role as a rural center.
The name Powidz comes from the central village that gives the whole area its identity. Visitors walking through the villages can still see traditional farmsteads and open fields that follow the same layout as generations before.
Getting around the municipality is easiest with a personal vehicle, as public transport is limited and roads between villages are rural. Walking between settlements is possible but distances can be long.
A former military airfield on the edge of the municipality was converted after 2019 into a NATO storage site holding US Army vehicles and equipment. This makes the area one of the few rural corners of Poland directly linked to an active international defense installation.
