Saint Anne church in Olesno

Saint Anne Church is a wooden building with a central nave and five chapels arranged on either side. This distinctive layout creates a unique structural arrangement where interior spaces connect to multiple worship areas.

The place began as a wooden chapel built in 1444 around a pine tree trunk that held religious meaning. It was rebuilt as a larger wooden church in 1518 and dedicated during a ceremony led by the Bishop of Wroclaw.

The church holds multiple altars and religious sculptures created by local craftspeople over centuries. Visitors can see personal objects left by pilgrims, offering a glimpse into how people expressed their faith through material offerings.

The building sits about 2 kilometers north of Olesno town center along the road toward Gorzow Slaski. The forested cemetery setting with additional religious structures gives visitors space to explore the entire complex.

The architectural design was displayed at a world fair in New York, bringing international attention to the wooden building craft. This recognition highlighted the skill involved in creating traditional European wooden structures.
