Aleksandrów Łódzki

Aleksandrów Łódzki, Industrial town in Zgierz County, Poland

Aleksandrów Łódzki is a town in Zgierz County located between the Vistula and Odra river basins in central Poland. The municipality connects to regional transportation routes and maintains an industrial economy based largely on textile production.

Founded in 1816 by Rafał Bratoszewski, the town was named after Russian Emperor Alexander I and granted municipal status in 1822. This early establishment set the stage for its later development as an industrial center.

The Catholic Church of St. Rafael and Michael and the Evangelical church that were built in the early 19th century shape how the town looks today. Both structures stand as gathering places where you can observe how local residents practice their faith and maintain their traditions.

The town sits on convenient regional transportation routes and can be visited at any time of year. You can walk through the center on foot and explore the historic churches and industrial buildings that reflect its past.

By the late 1800s, the town earned the nickname 'Sock-city' because of its concentrated knitting industry and specialized hosiery production. This local craft tradition became so well-known that people recognized it as a center for this type of textile work.
