Czaniec is a village in Silesian Voivodeship divided into Upper and Lower sections, both situated at the foot of the Beskid Mały mountains. The settlement extends along the Soła River at an elevation of about 320 meters.
The village was first documented in 1457 and originally belonged to the Duchy of Oświęcim before being incorporated into the Polish Crown in 1564.
The village is connected to the Wojtyła family, as ancestors of Pope John Paul II lived here and maintained their roots in the area. Locals view this connection as an important part of their identity.
The village lies about 14 kilometers east of Bielsko-Biała and is easily reached by buses that run regularly to neighboring communities. Spring and autumn offer the best visiting conditions, with mild weather and pleasant hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains.
