Książ Castle and park complex

Książ Castle and park complex is a fortress that rises above a river gorge and combines Gothic, Baroque, and Rococo architectural elements. The sprawling grounds include rooms that span from medieval times through the modern era.

The castle was founded in the late 13th century and changed hands several times before coming under Hochberg family control in the 15th century. This family remained the owners until the mid-20th century.

The castle served as a seat of nobility for centuries and remains central to the identity of the Wałbrzych region. Visitors walk through rooms that reflect how aristocratic families lived and ruled here.

Visitors can explore the interior and grounds during daylight hours, with guided tours covering both above-ground and underground sections. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the complex spans multiple levels and terraced areas.

During World War II, an extensive tunnel system was carved beneath the castle for a secretive military weapons project. These underground chambers are now accessible to visitors and reveal an unexpected layer of the fortress's past.
