Węgrów, Administrative center in Masovian Voivodeship, Poland.

Węgrów is a town in eastern Poland situated roughly 73 kilometers from Warsaw, with the Basilica of the Assumption forming its central landmark. The historic core blends medieval structures with later additions that reflect growth across multiple centuries.

The town received its city charter in 1441 and grew into a center for Reformation ideas between the 16th and 18th centuries. This period shaped its lasting importance as a religious and political hub in the region.

The Basilica serves as the religious heart of the town and draws visitors interested in its architectural style and role in local community life. The place has long functioned as a spiritual gathering point that shapes how people here mark their year and celebrate together.

Visitors reach the town through regular bus connections from Warsaw, with the journey taking roughly two hours across eastern Polish countryside. The center is walkable, and local landmarks like the Basilica help with orientation while exploring.

A Renaissance mirror housed in the Basilica connects to local folklore through the legend of Polish nobleman Twardowski, said to have made a pact with the devil. This old tale adds a layer of mystery to the place that still echoes in stories told today.
