Bartoszyce

Bartoszyce is an urban municipality along the Łyna River in northern Poland, characterized by green areas and medieval structures throughout its layout. The town center features two ancient stone monuments called Bartki as focal points.

The Teutonic Knights built a strategic fortress on the Łyna around 1240 to control the boundary between Natangia and Bartia regions. The settlement gradually grew into an important trading center in the border area.

The annual Borderland trade fairs have connected merchants and visitors since 1994, displaying regional goods and traditional crafts from the area. These gatherings continue to shape how the town presents itself to the wider region.

The town functions as a gateway to Kaliningrad via the Bezledy border crossing located near the city center. Visitors should plan ahead since proximity to the border may affect access to certain areas.

Two stone figures over one thousand years old, known as Bartki, stand as ancient Prussian monuments in a park at the town center. They represent rare surviving examples of pre-Christian regional art that intrigue visitors interested in local heritage.
