Two granite statues named Bartel and Gustebalda stand at the intersection of Marie Curie-Sklodowska and Warsaw Heroes streets in Bartoszyce.
The stone figures date back to the first millennium CE and represent some of the oldest monuments within the current Polish territories.
Local folklore connects these statues to ancient Prussian tribes, with tales of a prince and princess transformed into stone by supernatural forces.
The monuments remain accessible throughout the year at their permanent location in central Bartoszyce, near the former Castle Mountain site.
Each statue measures approximately 150 centimeters in height and features a stone basin, crafted entirely from granite using primitive tools.
