Bażyński Oak, Natural monument oak tree in Kadyny, Poland
The Bażyński Oak is an ancient oak tree in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship with a trunk circumference of about 10 meters and a height of about 21 meters. The crown spreads across several meters in different directions, creating a large green canopy over the ground.
This tree was planted roughly 700 years ago, making it one of the oldest trees in the country. Over time it became a monument that accompanied generations of people in the region.
The name honors Johannes von Baysen, a historical figure from the region. Today visitors can see the massive trunk and imagine how this place once belonged to the everyday life of local people.
The tree stands in an area with several other old oaks that are also protected. Visitors can easily reach the location and explore the surroundings where these ancient trees grow together.
The hollow trunk of this tree was once large enough that soldiers could take shelter inside, and it even served as a brewery at one point. In 1880 a wooden door was fitted to the trunk to protect the interior.
