Szydłowiec

Szydłowiec is the county seat of Szydłowiec County in Masovian Voivodeship, located roughly 110 kilometers south of Warsaw in east-central Poland. It serves as the administrative hub for the region and connects five neighboring districts.

The settlement received town rights in 1427 and grew from an artificial island stronghold built by the Odrowąż knightly family. These early foundations shaped its development as a regional administrative center.

Stonemason traditions shaped how buildings were constructed and decorated, drawing on local sandstone quarries that made this a craft center in medieval times. Walking through older neighborhoods, you can still see buildings adorned with detailed stone carvings that reflect this heritage.

The town provides access to all necessary administrative services for visitors conducting business in the region. Navigation is straightforward thanks to the central location of municipal facilities, which are reachable on foot or by local transport.

The Szydłowiec Memorial Book, published in New York in 1989, documents the experiences of the local Jewish community across multiple historical periods. This work preserves memories of an important cultural chapter in the town's past that often goes unnoticed.
