Jemielnica, Administrative village in Strzelce County, Poland
Jemielnica is a village in Opole Voivodeship in southwestern Poland, sitting about 219 meters above sea level amid rural farmland. It serves as the administrative center for its surrounding commune.
The settlement began in 1225 as Gemelnici and received German town law from the Duchy of Opole in medieval times. A Cistercian monastery was established in 1280, becoming a major influence on the area.
The village holds official status in both German and Polish since 2006, reflecting the region's mixed heritage. This linguistic duality appears in everyday local life and official documents.
The village sits roughly 9 kilometers northeast of Strzelce Opolskie and about 35 kilometers southeast of Opole, making it reasonably accessible by car. As a small rural settlement, visitor facilities are limited, so planning ahead is wise.
The Church of All Saints from the 13th century contains well-preserved frescoes and interior details from the 17th century, a rarity in such small village churches. These painted decorations offer an unusual glimpse into the artistic traditions that once flourished here.
